Ranchers have been using Redmond salt and minerals with great success for 60 years. We provide simple, back-to-basics products that help cattle thrive and save you money.
It is most common to offer free-ranging beef cattle free-choice access to minerals. When given the choice, they choose Redmond Premium Mineral Salt over any other salt or mineral offered which significantly reduces the intake of all the other products. Realizing their ability to seek what they need, it becomes very clear how powerful these natural Redmond products are and they usually become the bulk of the mineral program. This is often to the producer’s economic advantage as well.

What product(s) to use
Redmond 4 medium, 10 Fine, or pressed blocks for the salt portion. Use Redmond Conditioner mixed in with the salt
Instructions on how to use it.
Mix Redmond Conditioner with the granular salt (10 Fine blends more uniformly) at a rate of 1 bag of Conditioner to 3 or 4 bags of Redmond salt. Work up to half and half. Keep the granular or block products out all the time. Containers with cover help keep the integrity of the product and help it last longer.
If there are mineral deficiencies or health concerns on the ranch, the 10 Fine or 4 Medium can be replaced by any of our other varieties like Selenium 90, which is Redmond Salt with the addition of 90 ppm selenium plus added copper, manganese, iodine, cobalt, and zinc.
We offer high iodized with therapeutic levels for pinkeye and footrot.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Redmond Salt so unique?
This is one of the most mineral rich sea deposits in the world. There are over 60 naturally occurring elements in these products in the perfect balance and proportion, so this is not just refined sodium chloride.
What is Redmond Conditioner?
This is volcanic ash that fell into the sea water taking on those same properties. There are also over 60 naturally occurring elements in this, like the salt, but there is very little sodium and chloride. There are higher levels of all the other elements because of this.
Why should I feed Redmond Conditioner? Does it replace the salt?
Conditioner does not replace the salt because there is very little salt in the Conditioner. These two products are very complimentary to each other. Conditioner is volcanic ash. Having undergone the natural heat treatment, the minerals are very available. For example, Conditioner has 5% calcium whereas our salt has 0.05% calcium. Perhaps even of more import than the minerals is the fact that Conditioner binds toxins very well, cleaning up the digestive system so nutrients in the feed can be absorbed. In addition, it buffers the rumen and helps to utilize more of the free nitrogen that is prevalent in lush growing grass and other high protein situations. This is a 4 in 1 type of product that brings great results for an inexpensive price.
Do I need to feed any other minerals if I feed Redmond products?
When given a choice, animals choose Redmond over any other salt or mineral program. Normally intake on any other mineral product is reduced significantly, especially if Redmond Conditioner is fed with the Redmond Salt. Depending on the soils and feed quality in the area, they may need a little extra of certain minerals. Leaving access to some kind of heavier mineral mix will show whether they need it or not. You can also use our products with added minerals like Selenium 90.
Can I feed Redmond along with my other minerals?
Yes. They will likely eat a lot less of the other minerals, however.
Is there too much iron in Redmond?
According to the National Research Council (NRC), iron requirements for cattle are suggested to be around 50 mg/kg of feed. For average feed consumption for beef cows this equates to a minimum requirement of 1000 mg of iron/day. For dairy cows it’s around 1500 mg/day.
Feeds like grass, alfalfa, and corn silage are providing between 2500 mg to 11,000 mg/day of iron, far exceeding the book values of cow requirements.
Redmond Salt is providing 14 mg for every ounce consumed so around 28 to 85 mg/day or iron which is between ½% and 3% of the daily requirement depending on how much they consume.
Redmond Conditioner is providing 110 mg for every ounce consumed so around 220 to 665 mg/day or iron which is between 6% and 8% of the daily requirement.
Clearly, cattle are consuming way more iron than they require according to the book and have been for centuries. Nature has a way of dealing with these kinds of things. Iron in feedstuffs and minerals is in the ferric form (fe+3) and is poorly absorbed in the intestinal tract. Enterocytes regulate iron absorption efficiency and any more than 2 percent entering the system is excreted (Beard and Dawson, 1997).
Iron has a relationship with zinc, copper, and manganese and they all compete for absorption sites. Adding extra of these elements helps in keeping the balance.
Are the results from feeding Redmond I hear about guaranteed?
We wish we could say yes, but animals, feeds, and location are all different. There are so many variables to health and production. Certainly the majority of the time good things happen when animals are introduced to Redmond products, which is why you hear good things.
